Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday: August 3rd-5th

Sales Tax Holiday for School Supplies

As a co-sponsor of HB 532, I am pleased to invite all of you to take advantage of this great “tax free” holiday. Last years Back-To-School Tax Holiday was widely popular, saving Virginians an estimated $3.6 million. This holiday helps offset the rising costs of school items and sales taxes will not be charged on school supplies priced at $20 or less per item, or on articles of clothing, including footwear, costing up to $100.Hard working families drive our economy and providing them with this much-needed break is important to maintaining our high quality of life.

Also, I was Chief Sponsor of HB 1678 which is a sales tax exemption on certain Energy Star qualified products. This year will be the first year of this “tax free” holiday and will start on October 5 th - 8 th . This bill will help offset the cost on certain energy-efficient products such as, dishwashers, washers and dryers, air conditioners, ceiling fans, refrigerators and much more! I hope you will take advantage of these two great “TAX FREE” holidays!

As your delegate in the 78 th House District, please feel free to contact my office if you ever need assistance. It has been my privilege to serve as your delegate for the past 6 years and I look forward to serving again as your representative in the General Assembly.

Del. Cosgrove establishes Virginia National Guard Caucus

CHESAPEAKE, VA (Jun. 25) — Delegate John A. Cosgrove has established a bi-partisan Virginia National Guard Caucus within the General Assembly. The caucus includes both Delegates and Senators from all across Virginia. Delegate Cosgrove feels it is extremely important for General Assembly members to have a near real-time method of understanding the wants and needs of our National Guard and Reserve service members and their families. The caucus will start to hold meeting in the very near future.

Del. Cosgrove appointed to several House advisory councils

CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA — Delegate John Cosgrove was recently appointed by the Speaker of the House of Delegates to the Modeling and Simulations Advisory Council, the Aerospace Advisory Council and the Joint Subcommittee to Study Science and Technology Education in Business, Law, and Policy Graduate Program at the Commonwealth’s institutions of higher education.

Delegate Cosgrove, a member of the Joint Commission of Technology and Science, has been recognized by Speaker William J. Howell as one of the most qualified and informed members of the Virginia legislature dealing with technology issues. In announcing his appointments to these technology related committees, Speaker Howell noted, “Delegate Cosgrove has been dedicated to the development of technology initiatives in our Commonwealth and has played a strong leadership role in developing Modeling and Simulation as well as Space Exploration technologies so that these industries will thrive in Virginia.”

Delegate Cosgrove was the chief sponsor of the bills that established the Modeling and Simulations Advisory Commission and the Virginia Aerospace Advisory Council. He also is chairman of the Study Commission investigating Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education in our Virginia schools.

John Cosgrove declares candidacy

It is my distinct honor to represent the great citizens of Chesapeake in the 78th House of Delegates district to the General Assembly.

Over the past six years, we have accomplished together many things that have made our commonwealth a better place to live. Whether it be declaring a marriage to be between a man and a woman or preserving the Chesapeake Bay, we have taken a pragmatic and conservative approach to government.

As the Great Dismal Swamp was once owned by George Washington, it is important for us to remember and serve in a way that honors him. I take that charge very seriously, and am grateful for the opportunity that you have given me to serve you in Richmond.

I humbly ask for your continued support as we move Virginia and Chesapeake forward.
